Retinol for sensitive skin,
the right habits
Lingering stinging, dry patches and peeling skin are not the price you have to pay for real results. The goal isn't to go fast: it's to boost skin renewal while protecting your barrier.
Why retinol can irritate sensitive skin
Retinol is gradually converted by the skin into retinoic acid, the active form that works on cell renewal. This conversion requires an adjustment period: at first, it can temporarily weaken the skin's protective layer.
The problem isn't always retinol itself — it often comes from too high a strength or too frequent use. Sensitive skin needs consistency and comfort, not an aggressive treatment.
Which strength should you choose for sensitive skin?
To start, opt for a low-concentration formula, around 0.1% to 0.3%. A serum enriched with ceramides, panthenol, squalane or centella asiatica will often be more comfortable during the adjustment phase.

How to introduce retinol without weakening your skin
In the evening, after a gentle cleanse, let your skin dry completely before applying. Start with one application every 4 to 7 days for 2–3 weeks, then move to two evenings a week if your skin stays comfortable.
The sandwich method
Apply a thin layer of moisturiser before the retinol, then a second layer afterwards. This technique slightly slows the active's penetration and considerably improves comfort.
Combinations to avoid at first
A retinol evening should stay minimalist: gentle cleanser, retinol, repairing cream. Avoid AHAs, BHAs, peels and acidic vitamin C on the same evenings.

Sun protection is non-negotiable
Retinol can make skin more vulnerable when you first start using it. SPF50 sun protection every morning is essential to protect the progress you've made and keep your complexion even.
