Korean sunscreen —
for oily skin
At 10am, your complexion looks fresh. By midday, your T-zone starts to shine. And if your SPF also leaves a heavy film, you'll soon be tempted to skip it. That's where Korean sunscreen makes the difference: fine textures and comfortable finishes, designed to protect without turning your skin into a disco ball.
The Korean approach
Why Korean sunscreen suits oily skin so well
Oily skin doesn't necessarily lack hydration. Above all, it produces more sebum, often with visible pores, uneven texture or a tendency to break out. A classic sunscreen that's too rich or too occlusive can then make things more uncomfortable. You get shiny faster, you reapply badly, or you give up altogether.
Korean sun formulas are often loved for one simple reason: they're designed around real-life use. They don't just protect — they aim to be pleasant, discreet and compatible with a full routine. You'll more easily find gel-cream, fluid, essence or lotion textures, with a light finish and better layering under make-up.
“The best SPF for oily skin is the one you actually wear, every day.”
The real criteria
Korean sunscreen for oily skin: what to really look for
The trap is choosing solely on the words "mattifying" or "non-greasy". In practice, oily skin needs more than a slogan.
Texture first
If you hate the feel of sunscreen, go for fluid, gel or essence textures. An ultra-light formula with a glowy but non-greasy finish is often the best compromise so you don't add shine to skin that already produces plenty.

The actual finish on your skin
The word "glow" sounds dreamy on some skin. On others, it turns into shine by 11am. Look for a natural, soft-matte or semi-dewy finish rather than "glass skin" in a tube, which isn't always your best friend if your skin already produces enough light on its own.
Compatibility with blemishes
Oily skin is often also breakout-prone skin. It's best to avoid very occlusive textures if you know they congest you. Formulas with niacinamide, centella asiatica or panthenol can support calmer, better-balanced skin.

Real-life wear
Between heat, humidity, commuting, the office or the Reunion Island sun, the question isn't just "does it protect?" but also "does it stay comfortable?". For oily skin, the best formula is often the one that disappears visually without disappearing from your routine.
The pitfalls
The most common mistakes when you have oily skin
The first is thinking oily skin doesn't need a moisturiser before SPF. It depends. If your sunscreen is already hydrating enough, you can simplify your morning routine. But if your skin is oily and dehydrated, or sensitised by exfoliating actives, removing every layer of care can make the discomfort worse.
The second is choosing an ultra-mattifying formula to the point of drying. On paper, it seems ideal. In practice, some overly drying textures can emphasise skin texture or make reapplication unpleasant.
In practice
How to fit a Korean sunscreen into your routine
In the morning, think thin layers. Gentle cleanser, toner or light serum if you use one, moisturiser if needed, then sun protection. If your SPF is already comfortable enough, you can sometimes skip your day cream.
Let each layer settle for a few moments — less pilling, better make-up wear. As for reapplication, it all depends on your day: if you're genuinely exposed, you need to reapply, and on oily skin overly rich textures quickly become uncomfortable for this.

- Oily skin doesn't need an excessively mattifying SPF — it needs a texture it tolerates every day.
- A "glass skin" finish isn't always an ally on skin that's already naturally shiny.
- Niacinamide, centella and panthenol support oily skin without stripping it.
- Under-applying SPF is the most common mistake — real protection depends on the amount applied.
- The best SPF is the one you want to put on again tomorrow morning, and the day after.
