Vitamin C serum
for facial dark spots — choosing the right one
A vitamin C serum can really change how your complexion looks, provided you choose the right formula, at the right dose, and fit it smartly into your routine. But not all skin reacts in the same way, and not all serums are equal.
Why vitamin C is so sought after for dark spots
When your face marks easily, the issue isn't just visible pigmentation — it's also the evenness of your skin tone and your skin's radiance. Vitamin C helps improve radiance, supports antioxidant protection and helps reduce the appearance of pigmentation spots with regular use.
On recent spots, results can be fairly quick. On older or deeper hyperpigmentation, it often takes more patience and a coherent routine.
Vitamin C serum for facial dark spots — what to look for before buying
The first point: the form of vitamin C. Pure ascorbic acid is the best known — effective, but sometimes demanding for sensitive skin. Derivatives such as sodium ascorbyl phosphate are often more stable and more comfortable to use.
Also look at the supporting actives — niacinamide is an excellent partner for radiance and an even skin tone.

Which spots you can expect to improve
Vitamin C is particularly relevant for post-inflammatory marks — the ones left behind after breakouts — as well as some irregularities linked to sun exposure. For melasma, the approach needs to be more cautious and more comprehensive — daily sun protection remains absolutely central.
How to use a vitamin C serum without irritating your skin
If you're just starting out, begin once a day, ideally in the morning, on clean, dry skin. Then apply a moisturiser, followed by SPF every morning without exception. If your skin is sensitive, avoid combining an AHA/BHA exfoliant, a strong retinol and a highly concentrated vitamin C at the same time.
Which serum profile to choose for your skin
Sensitive or reactive skin: go for a vitamin C derivative, soothed with centella or panthenol. Combination to oily skin with blemishes: look for a light texture, possibly paired with niacinamide. Dull or sun-damaged skin: a more potent, well-dosed formula can make a real difference to overall luminosity.

- 5 to 10% is already enough — too high a percentage doesn't necessarily speed up results.
- Derivatives (sodium ascorbyl phosphate) are gentler for sensitive skin.
- Daily SPF is essential — without it, hyperpigmentation can get worse.
- Don't combine strong vitamin C + AHA/BHA + retinol in the same routine if your skin is reactive.
- A well-closed opaque bottle protects the active — check the colour and smell regularly.
